High winds strike area

Scattered power outages reported

FAIRMONT — A fury of winds and rain knocked down trees and led to power outages across Marion County Wednesday.

“We haven’t had a lot of accidents, but we’ve had numerous trees and power lines down, some of which are still down,” a Marion County Central Communications dispatcher reported Wednesday evening.

The dispatcher estimated that the center had gotten at least 15 calls about trees that had fallen down. Most of these tree problems were in the northeastern part of the county around Grant Town, Baxter and Fairview. Luckily, all the car wrecks that occurred were minor.
