Council to consider municipal liens

Search for new police chief ‘a good process’

FAIRMONT — Fairmont City Council will be considering an ordinance at tonight’s meeting that would add teeth to the city’s efforts to collect fees.

The proposed ordinance calls for City Hall to place a lien against the property of anyone who is delinquent in paying their fire, street and other fees assessed by the city.

“The Legislature approved the measure. A few municipalities have approved something like this, all with the goal of collecting money that is due,” said City Manager Jay Rogers. “These are fees for services. This just another method to collect these fees.”

Rogers will be updating council about the search process for the next police chief.
