Tree, birds at heart of feud

Squabble could be matter of discussion during Mannington’s next council meeting

FAIRMONT — A squabble between two Mannington neighbors concerning an excessive amount of birds and a large pine tree could be a matter of discussion at the city’s next council meeting.

Current councilman Jeff Michael and former Mayor Frank White have lived next door to each other on Windy Hill Drive in Mannington for about 20 years.

But several years ago, the neighbors began arguing over a very old tree standing in Michael’s yard, which eventually led to the removal of it and allegations that the former mayor illegally used city money to have it cut down. And now, because of the removal of the tree, and allegedly the feud, a significant number of pigeons and other birds graze White’s property on a regular basis.
