FAIRMONT — Dozens of Marion Countians braved the chilly, snowflake-ridden air Friday hoping to ensure that their children would be graced with big smiles on Christmas morning.
An idea that started with a simple brainstorm and quickly evolved into a full-out, community-wide fusion of generosity, the county’s Christmas Toy Shop was held from 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. at the Marion County Election Center. And with parents and relatives lining up as early as 6:15 a.m. to pick out free presents for their little ones, organizers said the initiative was a huge success.
“It’s been phenomenal,” Marion County Board of Education president the Rev. James Saunders said of the event.
