Employees drive mining company’s success

Red Bone Mining has contract for Morgantown site

FAIRMONT — Red Bone Mining Co. owes much of its success to the dedicated employees, owner Charlie Lilly said.

“We have been blessed with good employees, and were it not for that we would not be here today,” he said.

Charlie began his career in the coal industry in 1969, and started Red Bone Mining Co. in 1983 with his brother Kerry. In 1989, Charlie bought Kerry’s portion of the company and has been the sole owner since. Charlie said his brother is back working with Red Bone, and the company is happy to have him as part of the team again.

Red Bone is an underground contract mining company that works on relatively small mines. The entity mines tracts of coal that are owned by other coal companies, and sells the coal solely to those businesses, Charlie said.
