COLFAX — Anyone who knows Joyce Irons is well aware she is one of the leading citizens of the Colfax community.
She was described as “a good neighbor and great community person” by the person who nominated her to be an “Everyday Hero.”
That’s exactly what she strives to be. She would settle for the word “good” in front of community person, but “great” is just that much better.
Joyce Irons is the Times West Virginian’s “Everyday Hero” for Thanksgiving week.
A county native
Joyce Irons is a native of Marion County. She moved to Colfax as a teenager, then married a man from Colfax, Charles Irons.
She says she began her community work after Charles passed away in 2003. “It was something I needed to do.”
That’s also when her appreciation for veterans really took hold as well.
