FAIRMONT — Four years ago, the Marion County Schools administration came up with an idea to better prepare students for an undefined job market.
The result of that idea is the Passport program, and it’s a graduation requirement for this year’s senior class.
The project should be based on the individual student’s career choice and includes a research paper to be completed the junior year and a senior project.
At the Marion County Technical Center, counselor Sabrina Judy is coordinating their students and acting as coordinator for the county. She said the project’s going well.
“The biggest thing is getting the kids sold on it,” Judy said. “They’ve known since their freshman year, but they don’t understand why it has to be them.”
