Mannington water rate still up in air

PSC staff still figuring how large hike must be to cushion finances

MANNINGTON — The exact percentage of a proposed water-rate increase in the City of Mannington is still up in the air as West Virginia Public Service Commission staff members continue calculating how much money is needed to cushion the city’s finances.

Friday, the PSC held a hearing for a proposed rate hike introduced by the city in August. But because of an issue with unaccounted for water that resulted from a faulty master meter at the city’s now-dormant municipal plant, the rate calculations are going to be “slightly higher” than what staff initially proposed, PSC officials said.
