Loan to spark development at former Moose, YMCA site

FAIRMONT — The former Moose Lodge and YMCA building in downtown Fairmont is coming back to life thanks to the efforts of the Fairmont Community Development Partnership.

Wednesday, the county commission agreed to grant an $80,000 loan at zero percent interest to go toward putting a sound roof on the historic structure.

“It’s a tremendous building,” commission president Randy Elliott said. “I’m looking forward to seeing the contractors over there and work getting started.”

Located on Fairmont Avenue in the recently revitalized Traction Square area of downtown, which encompasses Fairmont’s South Side, the building has been out-of-commission for quite some time.
