Memories vivid for Congressional Medal of Honor winner

FAIRMONT — Woody Williams, perhaps Marion County’s greatest military hero, won the Congressional Medal of Honor with his heroic actions on the island of Iwo Jima back when he was 21 years old.

That was a long time ago, as he says.

Woody is now 86. His wife Ruby passed away two years ago. But he admits he has been very, very blessed.

He is still fighting for veterans affairs and appearing around the state and country on their behalf.

He has some strong ideas on some subjects, and he discusses them in this Veterans Day story.
