FAIRMONT — City council adopted a new five-year levy that could raise more than $4.7 million to pave and repair city streets.
“If we could get a revenue stream year in and year out, we could be able to tell the people of Fairmont that absolutely your streets will get paved,” said Public Works Director Joe Feltz at Tuesday’s meeting.
The voters will have to decide in the May 2010 primary whether or not to increase property taxes.
“Council wishes to give the voters a choice,” said councilman Chuck Warner.
