Trial set next month for FBI agent

Accused of invasion of privacy at Middletown Mall

FAIRMONT — An April incident involving two FBI agents allegedly videotaping young girls changing in a Middletown Mall dressing room has resulted in a plea agreement for one of the individuals while the other awaits a December trial.

According to court documents, New Milton resident Gary Sutton Jr., 43, pleaded guilty to conspiracy to commit criminal invasion of privacy in Marion County Magistrate Court for the incident on Sept. 1. Within the plea, he was placed on six months unsupervised probation and given a $200 fine.

Marion Prosecutor Pat Wilson said Sutton has also resigned from the FBI.

    Clyde Bates, 67, was named in a one-count indictment charging him with possession of child pornography in Fairmont on Aug. 27, 2010.

  • Man indicted on 14 counts of sexual abuse

    A Mannington man has been indicted by the Marion County grand jury on 14 counts of sexual abuse.
    James Edward Carpenter, 34, of 100 Parkview Drive, Apt. 101, Mannington, is charged with four counts of first-degree sexual abuse and 10 counts of sexual abuse by parent, guardian or custodian.
