FAIRMONT — More and more taxpayers are taking advantage of the Internal Revenue Service’s e-file program.
This year — as of Oct. 30 — 525,580 West Virginia taxpayers filed their federal income tax returns electronically. Nationwide, 67.18 percent — or nearly 95 million — of the more than 141 million total returns were e-filed.
Over the past decade, the number of e-filed returns in the country has increased by 168 percent. This electronic filing option was started as a test program in the early ’80s with about 25,000 people participating at that time, said Eric Erickson, spokesperson for the IRS.
