Fairmont Field Club holds annual meeting in its new clubhouse

FAIRMONT — Rising from the ashes of a devastating April 2008 fire, members and shareholders of the Fairmont Field Club gathered at the organization’s newly built clubhouse Thursday evening for their annual meeting.

Deemed a “pre-opening” by Field Club President Philip Petty, Thursday’s event was the first held at the clubhouse since the organization’s historic, early 20th Century facility burned to the ground last year.

“We have not been open for (more than) a year,” he said. “This is the first chance for everyone to be together in this setting.”

Petty said the official grand opening of the new clubhouse is set to be held in a week to 10 days, marked almost exactly a year from the groundbreaking held Nov. 1 of last year. In total, he said the Field Club has 125 shareholders and about 200 members.
