FAIRMONT — This summer, the Town of Fairview took a significant step into the 21st century with the construction of its very first cell phone tower.

Located in the Daybrook area, town officials said crews from U.S. Cellular put cell phone equipment on the 911 tower around the end of July or early August and people have been making mobile calls ever since.

“It’s working great,” town recorder Heather Tuttle said of the new cell service. “I have nTelos and I’ve been picking up service really well. We are really thankful that we have it. We’ve needed it and have been waiting a long time for it.”

Tuttle said town officials and residents have been trying to get cell service to Fairview for about nine years and finally succeeded in their efforts this year.
