FAIRMONT — City Manager Jay Rogers will give the same city council that approved a 49 percent water rate increase amidst sometimes heated public opposition some good news at tonight’s meeting.
City Hall has been awarded millions of dollars in federal stimulus money to help pay for repairs to the water treatment plant. Courtesy of the American Reinvestment and Recovery Act, the city will receive about $8.2 million toward construction costs for the Corrective Action Plan. Rogers said half this money — about $4.1 million — is a grant that doesn’t need to be paid back. The other half — about $4.1 million — is a 30-year loan with a zero percent interest rate.
