WHITE HALL — Hundreds of students, parents and volunteers flocked to the Middletown Mall Thursday to honor afterschool programs.
Each year, the annual Lights On Afterschool rally brings folks out for fun with a purpose: While they’re enjoying themselves, they’re showing the community the importance of afterschool programs and how they help children.
In Marion County, the event is sponsored by the Mountaineer Boys and Girls Club, which operates afterschool programs at Blackshere, East Park and Watson elementary schools. About 300 children are served at those programs alone.
Organizer Stacey Spadafore said this year’s rally was bigger and better than ever before.
“This has been a huge success,” Spadafore said.
