RIVESVILLE — Town council has moved one step closer to approving a water rate increase.
At Tuesday’s meeting, council approved the second of three readings of an ordinance to raise water rates to keep pace with Fairmont’s latest rate increase, which was approved earlier this month. Fairmont provides water to Rivesville.
“It’s something we had to do because Fairmont raised its rates on us,” said Ed Mahalick, Rivesville mayor.
For residential customers, rates will increase 16 percent, or $3.44, overall — from $14.75 to 18.19 per 2,000 gallons. Commercial rates will increase 17 percent, or $4.62, per 2,000 gallons.
