FAIRMONT — A pedestrian was taken to Fairmont General Hospital early Tuesday evening after he was struck by a car while attempting to cross Third Street near the First Exchange Bank at the corner of Fairmont Avenue.
Officer B. Speakman of the Fairmont Police Department said the man, whose identity he had not confirmed less than an hour after the 5:49 p.m. accident, was unresponsive on the scene.
“He was possibly jogging down Gaston (Avenue) and crossed in front of traffic on Third,” Speakman said. “The vehicle in the westbound right-turn lane struck him.”
The man, who appeared to be in his 40s, had on headphones, which led Speakman to believe the man was jogging. He appeared to sustain severe head injuries but was breathing, Speakman said.
