FAIRMONT —
West Virginia Rescue Ministries, more commonly known as the Union Mission, is consistently serving around 125 meals a day to the hungry.
Multiplied out over a month, that comes to approximately 3,750 meals worth of food.
The Union Mission is one of 10 agencies benefiting from the Times West Virginian Gift of Love food drive under way now.
“I’m not going to paint the picture that we’re in desperate need,” said Executive Director George Batten. “But ... if things continue as they’re going, I could see that happening.”
Overall, he said, the numbers aren’t necessarily higher than last year, but the need certainly hasn’t decreased.
