FAIRMONT —
The City of Fairmont was not awarded federal funding to help pay the salaries of officers in a task force investigating drug offenses and violent crimes for Fiscal Year 2012.
But it only would have meant about $25,000, city manager Jay Rogers said, and that would have been used to “backfill” salaries in the Three Rivers Drug Task Force. No positions were eliminated when the city failed to obtain funding through the Department of Justice (DOJ) Division of Justice and Community Services Justice Assistance Grant (JAG), he explained.
Police agencies have come and gone through the task force through the years, with only one constant agency — the Fairmont Police Department. In the past, agencies have also included the Morgantown Police Department, the Monongalia County Sheriff’s Department, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department, the White Hall Police Department and the Monongah Police Department.
