MANNINGTON —
Mannington’s Moose Lodge is taking steps in constructing a new building after the old building was destroyed by a fire in September.
Around 8:20 p.m. on Sept. 19, the Moose Lodge caught fire on the second floor. Becky Yoho, secretary of the Moose, said some people were playing cards at the time on the first floor. There were about 10-15 people in the building, and all escaped with no injuries.
“I was heartbroken,” Yoho said. “I loved that darn place.”
A few months after the fire destroyed the building on East Railroad Street, Yoho said plans to rebuild the lodge are coming together.
“We just got pans back from the architect,” she said. “They will go out for bid sometime after Christmas.”
Dwayne Blackwell is the architect that drew up the plans for the new Moose Lodge.
Yoho said they are hoping to start construction on the new building by the middle of January.
“If the weather holds up we’re hoping to be back in business by late spring,” she said.
The new lodge will be built on the same lot that the old one was on. Yoho said the new building will only be one story instead of two.
“It’ll be beautiful on the outside,” she said. “It won’t be as big as the other building, but it’ll be right back where it was.”
The Moose had been in Mannington for the past 90 years in the building, but after the fire that burned it down, the club has rented a house for temporary use.
