United Way sets goal at $455,000

Co-chairmen Doreen and Len Larson hope to ‘warm up Marion County’

FAIRMONT — The United Way of Marion County had its 2012-2013 Campaign Kick-off breakfast on Monday in the Falcon Center at Fairmont State University and Pierpont Community and Technical College.

Dr. Doreen and Len Larson, co-chairs for this year’s campaign announced that the goal to reach is set at $455,000.

“That is a lot of money. We understand that, but we have a great cabinet,” Doreen Larson said.

Last year’s campaign was set at $410,000 which was reached and exceeded when they raised $451,000.

“We wanted to set something that was higher than last year,” Doreen said. “We’re looking for everyone to increase their donation just a little bit and we’ll reach our goal.”

After the announcement of goal, the co-chairs revealed the theme and symbol for the campaign. The chairs chose the theme “Warm Up Marion County” and a red scarf as a symbol.

“The first thing we thought of was the color,” Doreen said. “And we thought of the color red.”

They chose the color red because of how they received a warm welcome when they moved to Marion County two years ago. Also because of how Marion County warms the nation.
