Group making difference in county

Members clean along Gateway Connector and interstate ramps

FAIRMONT — Fairmont’s Gateway Connector has been open for nearly two years and sees more and more traffic as the months go on.

With the ongoing growth of the natural gas fields and new jobs coming into the city, the entry and exit ramps on and off I-79 will likely be even busier.

Unfortunately, the growth in traffic seems to have corresponded with a growth in trash. Plastic cups, broken bottles and garbage of all kind littered the side of the highway until some caring citizens stepped in.

On Saturday, members of the “What Fairmont Needs Is” Facebook group worked to clean up the connector as part of the Adopt-A-Highway Fall Statewide Cleanup. Between 10 and 15 people came out to make the connector look more presentable.
