FAIRMONT —
October is Breast Cancer Awareness Month, but it also comes on the heels of National Women’s Health & Fitness Day, which takes place Wednesday.
That makes the Women’s Health Awareness Day at Fairmont General Hospital all the more timely. Not only can women make appointments for mammograms and breast exams, they also can get other tests as well as peruse a variety of booths that will be set up in and around the Hamilton Conference Room from 4-8 p.m. Oct. 5.
“The primary goal of this is to provide free Pap screening and clinical breast exams to either uninsured or underinsured women and to provide educational information on various aspects of health,” said Tricia Julian, Fairmont General’s program coordinator for oncology services.
“We will have information and literature on nutrition, exercise, smoking cessation, breast cancer, dental hygiene and oral cancers, and heart health.”
Other free screenings include those for the carotid artery, blood pressure, body fat index, blood sugar, bone density, skin cancers and EKGs.
Four of the exams require appointments. Those are the Pap tests, mammograms, EKGs and the carotid artery tests. Women can call 304-367-7171 to do that, Julian said.
“There are a certain number of slots,” she added.
