FAIRMONT —
When Capt. Bob Cornet is asked about how valuable the United Way money is to the Salvation Army each month, he can talk all afternoon about it.
Or at least for several hours.
“Their help is absolutely needed,” he says.
“They give us a little over $9,000 a year and that makes it possible for us to deliver rents, utility and food to folks who cannot otherwise afford it,” he explains.
“This past winter we were overrun with requests from first-time clients for utilities, rent and food — primarily because of the cold weather we had. Without the Untied Way money, we would not have been able to provide services such as keeping the heat on for our clients.
“In addition to keeping people warm in the winter, United Way dollars help us provide food and shelter for folks who cannot afford their own medicines throughout the year.”
