FAIRMONT —
The second Saturday in September always means the same thing: It’s time for the Fairmont Senior High School Band Spectacular.
This year, FSHS band director Shawn Dunn said 16 bands from around the region will fill East-West Stadium with music. Two of those bands, Fairmont State University and Shepherd University, will feature the talents of collegiate musicians as well.
Show time begins at 7 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 11.
That’s a lot of music for a little bit of money. Tickets are on sale now at the FSHS main office, Rider Pharmacy and the Country Club Road Shop ’n Save. Advance tickets are $6. If you’re not one who plans ahead, you can still get tickets at the door for $7.
“That’s a great value for your entertainment dollar,” Dunn said. “If you buy advance tickets, it’s 40 cents per band.”
Each band’s show is unique, with different music and styles of marching, he said, so there’s literally something for everyone.
Seeing the different styles of music and performance isn’t just for the spectators; it’s for the band students as well.
FSHS senior trumpet players Katie Cross and Braden King said that’s what they’re looking forward to, being able to see the different shows.
“It’s awesome,” Cross said. “Everyone should come to the spectacular.”
