Dennis Whitehair

Dennis Whitehair, 65, of Fairmont, passed away Sunday (Sept. 30, 2012) at Fairmont General Hospital.

He was born in Ritchie County on April 30, 1947, a son of the late Harley Whitehair and Edith Elizabeth (Miller) Whitehair.

Dennis proudly served his country with the U.S. Marine Corps. In his earlier years, he worked at North Pole Ice Co. in Fairmont as an ice maker and delivery truck driver and he had also worked for Electrolux Manufacturing Co. in Ohio.

He enjoyed hunting, fishing and metal detecting. Dennis was a professional musician who enjoyed singing and playing country music on his guitar in his own groups and with other groups including Leo Herron and others. He loved cats, feeding birds and singing with local country music groups.

He is survived by two brothers, Denver Wesley Whitehair of Fairmont and Gail Whitehair; his close friend, Karen of Fairmont; and four sisters, Deloris Vanetti of Fairmont, Ester Szczyt of Fairmont, Virginia Lucas and her husband Larry of Georgia, and Patty Eries of New York.

Also surviving is a dear friend and caregiver.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by three brothers, John Whitehair, David Herrington and Gene Whitehair.

Family and friends may call at Carpenter and Ford Funeral Home, 209 Merchant St., Fairmont, from 2-8 p.m. today and from 10-11:30 a.m. Thursday. The funeral service will be held in the funeral home at 11:30 a.m. Thursday with Dr. Holley Faulkner officiating. The Marion County Veterans Council Honor Guard will conduct flag-folding honors at the funeral home. Interment will follow at Grandview Memorial Gardens in Fairmont.
