FAIRMONT — The Fairmont City Police Department has plans to introduce a pair of furry four-legged officers to its fleet in the near future.
And to help with the initiative, the county commissioners voted to award $1,500 to the department Wednesday morning.
Cpl. Donnie Neal, the department’s community resource officer, said that the city is soliciting funds from several sources to add at least one, and possibly two, new K-9 units to the department. Neal said the dogs will be trained in narcotics detection and may also be used for patrol work, meaning that they will be trained in skills that include building searches and officer protection.
