FAIRMONT —
Amanda Jo Barker, freshman cheerleading coach at North Marion High School, was arrested by West Virginia State Police on Tuesday on three counts of child sexual abuse by a person in a position of trust.
According to Sgt. Adam Scott of the State Police, the 32-year-old Mannington woman allegedly had oral sex with a male student in her home.
The arrest came after a student told Rob Shaffer, assistant principal at North, of hearing that Barker had performed oral sex on a fellow student, a 16-year-old male.
According to the criminal complaint filed at Marion County Magistrate Court, the victim at first told Scott it had not happened, that he had texted his girlfriend to make her jealous. Then he admitted it had happened three times, that he often spent a lot of time with Barker because she was a friend of the family and her husband had coached him in soccer.
Barker also denied the allegations at first, then admitted it to Scott.
Barker has posted a $15,000 bond and faces 30 to 60 years in prison if convicted.
