WHITE HALL —
Because of a ditch on Jacklyn Street that contains a pipe that is too big for the ditch, flooding has become a concern for two local residents.
For nearly an hour during their Monday meeting, White Hall council members discussed the issue with Cecil Corley and Bill Ott and brainstormed possible solutions to the problem.
Water travels under the ditch when it rains, according to Ott, which is the main concern. Not only does the water flood Ott’s yard, but it’s still traveling under the road, which could cause it to eventually cave in if it’s not addressed.
Instead of patching the hole like residents expected, workers recently ripped out the concrete, leaving it as a large, open ditch.
“The whole thing is overkill,” Corley said during the meeting. “It needs to be smaller. For right now we just need it fixed.”
Council member Chad Corley said a more solid foundation should be put in place to prevent flooding concerns.
Town attorney J.T. Hodges advised that whoever conducts further work on the site should know the appropriate size pipe needed and, most importantly, know how to engineer it.
