WHITE HALL —
Law enforcement officials are investigating a confirmed robbery that took place at the White Hall branch of WesBanco early Saturday morning.
According to the Marion County 911 log, a robbery incident in White Hall was entered at 9:37 a.m. Saturday.
The White Hall Police Department is handling the investigation and is being assisted by the Marion County Sheriff’s Department and the FBI. Fairmont City Police provided aid Saturday morning, said Patrolman Caleb Krepps of the White Hall Police Department.
Few details were available as of 1:30 p.m. Saturday, but he confirmed the robbery had taken place and that no one was injured.
Other information — the number and description of the robbers, the amount of money taken, how they gained entrance to the branch, the number of cashiers on duty at the time — was not released as of 1:30 p.m.
“We’re still putting the pieces together,” Krepps said.
“To my knowledge, this branch has never been robbed before. We’re not sure if this is related to any other robberies in the county or the area.
“We’re working with agencies to see if we can find out if any of them are linked.”
Entrance from U.S. 250 to the branch was blocked by a White Hall police car. Most patrons were understanding when they were denied entrance, but a few were frustrated by being turned away.
Many drivers traveling along the major highway slowed down to check out the flashing lights at the quiet bank that sits in the bottom of a slight hill.
Krepps said more information will be released as it becomes available.
