Sense of accomplishment marks Pierpont graduation

FAIRMONT — A diploma, no matter how beautiful, at the end of the day is still just a sheet of paper.



But as Dr. Doreen Larson, president of Pierpont Community & Technical College, explained to the graduating class of 2012 on Friday afternoon, that piece of paper represents much, much more.

For the more than 100 graduates attending Pierpont’s 2012 spring commencement, that diploma has a strong, lasting value that does not fluctuate with the years and is recognized “across the globe,” Larson said.

“The diploma represents times when graduates could have given up (or) could have quit,” she said in an opening speech.
