FAIRMONT —
Marion County continues to deal with its drug problem, with several arrests made in the past week.
On Tuesday, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department arrested Clinton B. Curfman, 19, of Fairmont, for possession of a controlled substance with intent to deliver.
According to the criminal complaint, deputies pulled over Curfman’s vehicle after noticing him weaving left to right on the interstate. After pulling the vehicle over, deputies noticed the strong smell of marijuana in the vehicle. Curfman reportedly claimed he had been spending time that afternoon with people who were smoking marijuana and that he was distracted by a puppy in the front seat, causing his erratic driving.
Officers initiated a search of the vehicle and allegedly found approximately 8 ounces of a “green leafy substance that field tested positive for THC,” the active chemical in marijuana. Curfman told officers he was on his way to sell the drug, the complaint says.
If convicted, he faces one to five years in prison, a fine of up to $15,000 or both at the court’s discretion.
On Saturday, Fairmont police arrested Kevin Darryl Arnold, 25, of Fairmont, on the same charges.
According to the criminal complaint, officers searched Arnold’s apartment as part of another investigation being conducted by the department. While frisking Arnold and others in the apartment, police reportedly discovered a small bag of vegetative material that field tested positive for THC. Further investigation allegedly netted a box full of suspected marijuana and $331 in cash.
