FAIRMONT —
If you see people digging up the ground near the former CSX rail from Barrackville to Mannington, don’t worry.
It’s workers from MSES Environmental Consultants Inc. taking soil samples for a proposed rail trail.
The Marion County Commission and MCPARC are planning to extend the rail trail program from those two towns.
Before this can happen, environmental tests must be done to detect any potential contaminants in the soil.
“Two weeks ago we were given the right-of-entry from CSX to conduct this testing as part of our negotiations to obtain this property from them,” said Kris Cinalli, county administrator.
“Hopefully, the testing will be favorable for recreation and we can move forward with these negotiations once completed.
