FAIRMONT —
More than 500 students will be on the campus of Fairmont State University today as they compete in the FIRST Lego League Tournament with hopes of advancing to the championship tournament held in St. Louis, Mo. in the spring of 2013.
The FIRST Lego League (FLL) Tournament, which is funded by the NASA Space Grant Consortium, the NASA Robotics Alliance at NASA IV&V, and the College of Science and Technology at FSU and is the largest robotics competition in the state, is meant to encourage students to explore the world of science and technology.
The FIRST (For Inspiration and Recognition of Science and Technology) organization is an agency that focuses on promoting science- and technology-related careers. The competition will engage students in a variety of problem-solving activities.
“Every year there is a different theme and topic that students research,” Todd Ensign, program manager of the NASA IV&V Educator Resource Center and director of the tournament, said.
