FAIRMONT —
William Michael Horton Jr., 30, pleaded guilty to a single count of first-degree robbery at an unemotional hearing Wednesday morning.
Three other charges — two nighttime burglary and one other charge of first-degree robbery — were dismissed as part of a plea bargain.
“I’m tired of fighting this thing,” Horton said as Judge Michael Aloi asked him if he wanted to continue with his plea. “I just want to get back to my family.”
Horton’s charges stemmed from a robbery-turned-homicide on June 26, 2010, in which he allegedly acted as lookout while his cousins, John C. Cottingham and Shaquille Lewis, allegedly broke into a residence intending to rob a targeted drug dealer they believed was there.
The two reportedly pistol-whipped the female resident and forced her to another residence, where the occupant gained access to Cottingham’s gun and shot and killed him.
