FAIRMONT —
Last year, more than 8,000 people packed downtown Fairmont for the sixth annual Feast of the Seven Fishes Festival, and the need for financial assistance is there more than ever.
In the years the Feast of the Seven Fishes has been held, it has grown considerably, according to Main Street Fairmont executive director Kate Greene. During the Marion County Commission meeting Wednesday morning, Greene presented the commissioners with the budget for this year’s festival and requested $10,000 in assistance.
Between entertainment, transportation to and from the festival, advertising and other financial costs, the budget was set at $26,050. Expanding the festival would promote more tourism and keep visitors in town over the weekend.
Advertisements from the Convention & Visitors Bureau of Marion County have been promoting it as a weekend event, and a dinner has been planned for the evening of Dec. 7.
