In the past few years, the Marion County Sheriff’s Department has seen an increase in drug activity throughout the county.
But training, education and equipment are three ways the department is fighting back.
Sheriff Joe Carpenter is very aware of the county’s drug problem.
“It’s like every other county — it’s the big trend now,” he said. “We need to fight it.”
Carpenter said the department deals with drugs every day, and in the past four years the sheriff’s department has made more than 900 drug arrests.
“There are several cases a day,” he said. “It’s every single day we’re dealing with drugs.”
A lot of the arrests are due to deputies doing their jobs. Carpenter calls it “Operation Do Your Job.”
