FAIRMONT —
There’s one week left to file to run in the City of Fairmont’s election.
The filing period officially ends at 4:30 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 8.
Council holds elections every two years, with roughly half the seats on the nine-member body up for election. This year, there are four of the nine seats up for grabs.
Earlier this week, five people had filed to run for three of those seats.
Three of those, Mayor Bill Burdick, Deputy Mayor Rob Garcia, and Councilman Dan Weber, are incumbents.
Anthony Tyrone Horton is challenging Burdick for his seat, while Suzy Henderson Smith has filed to run for the seat currently held by Garcia.
This year, the 2nd District seat currently held by Bob Sapp, the 4th District seat held by Burdick, the 6th District seat held by Weber and and the 7th District seat held by Garcia are on the ballot.
As of Monday, no one had filed to run for the 2nd District seat.
