Huntington National Bank program has expanded into county

FAIRMONT — Thanks to a local bank, nearly 100 of the county’s children will be able to hold their heads high on the first day of school.

Huntington National Bank has donated backpacks full of school supplies to children for the last few years. This year, the program was expanded throughout the bank’s five state footprint and comes to Marion County.

Huntington Bank pledged $100,000 nationally and paired with Big Lots to buy 14,000 backpacks to children in communities served by the bank’s branches. The bank will donate 1,000 backpacks in West Virginia in Charleston, Huntington, Morgantown, Clarksburg, Fairmont, Elkins, Weston, Parkersburg and Harrisville.

    A string of financial difficulties caused by water leaks has left the Ministers Run Water Association in a bind that was relieved by the Marion County Commission on Wednesday.
    Ministers Run Water Association will receive a $20,000 no-interest loan to be paid back when it’s feasible for the association. Funding will be provided through Coal Severance.
