Meeks enjoys being mayor of ‘greatest little town’

BARRACKVILLE — It’s his first term as mayor of Barrackville, but Roy Meeks III is enjoying his job.

Meeks was elected mayor in June and took office in July. He was on the town council for two years before becoming mayor.

Meeks said he has to give a lot of credit to the mayors who came before him.

“The mayors before me who did it with full-time jobs, I don’t see how they did,” he said.

Depending on the day of the week, Meeks starts his day at a different time.

“Mondays I come early because we have prayer at the flagpole,” he said. “I usually start around 10 a.m.”

Throughout the day, Meeks works on business that gets put in front of him.

“Whatever work comes up,” he said. “Whatever business comes before me — that’s what I take care of.”
