Singing along with her East Dale Elementary classmates is fun for Brooke Garrison, especially when it’s her favorite Christmas song, “Rudolph the Red-Nosed Reindeer.”
“I like Rudolph,” Garrison said. “He’s funny and has a red nose.”
While Garrison likes Rudolph the most, Jenna Casto likes all the reindeer.
“I like ‘Up on the Rooftop’ because it’s about all the reindeer,” Casto said.
“Up on the Rooftop” is a hip-hop song with creative movements to accompany the beat.
“It’s out of the normal,” Tucker Priest explained.
Enthusiastic about their upcoming Christmas program on Dec. 13, the first-graders sang along to a number of Christmas songs Monday afternoon, constantly moving around and dancing to the beat. A high-energy show, the program is designed to keep students moving and audience members entertained.
Other songs include “The Santa Claus Rock” and “The Snowman Jump,” but students like Espen Lambert had his own favorite.
“Merry Christmas Time” is his favorite because, as he said, “it’s all about Christmas,” while Allison Connor enjoys “We Wish You a Merry Christmas.”
“It wishes you a merry Christmas,” she explained. “It makes me feel good.”
Seeing them in action over the past few months, first-grade teacher Betty Lee said the students are more than ready to perform Thursday, Dec. 13. Only 28 students are chosen each year for the first-grade Christmas program.

Noteworthy Sweets pepperoni rolls first in professional bake-off

Three Rivers Festival features variety of entertainment
The 34th annual West Virginia Three Rivers Festival started in fine form Thursday night with a grand feature parade through downtown Fairmont, ending at Palatine Park with opening ceremonies.
