FAIRMONT —
A series of accidents on I-79 southbound Saturday evening tied up traffic and resulted in several injuries, according to the Marion County Sheriff’s Department.
Deputy J. Williamson said that about four accidents took place on I-79, many attributed to previous incidents. Dispatch logs indicate that the first accident happened around 6:30 p.m.
The first accident was a rear collision, she said, as a vehicle was emerging and the oncoming car didn’t see. It was shortly followed by a four-car collision, each rear-ending the next.
The third accident was a rollover believed to involve entrapment. Williamson said that there were injuries sustained in this accident, and at least one individual was transported to Ruby Memorial Hospital in Morgantown with unknown injuries.
The fourth accident was another rear collision. Traffic was blocked for quite some time, but the road was clear again by 8 p.m.
