FAIRMONT —
Sandwiched between Black Friday and Cyber Monday is another great shopping opportunity — Small Business Saturday.
Small Business Saturday was founded three years ago by American Express in an effort to attract consumers to locally owned businesses within their communities.
“It’s a great day in Marion County,” Tina Shaw, Marion County Chamber of Commerce president, said. “We’ve had a lot of success with it and we just encourage shoppers in Marion County to shop local that day.”
By supporting small businesses, customers help local economies reap benefits. In a recent press release, Gov. Earl Ray Tomblin said that more than 96 percent of West Virginia’s employers are small businesses.
“Small Business Saturday is an opportunity for you to invest your hard-earned dollars back into your hometown and to promote the importance of small businesses in your community,” Tomblin said.
