PLEASANT VALLEY — Schools in the East attendance area have truly embraced a new initiative.
It’s called Professional Learning Communities. The idea is teachers and administrators get together to study a topic of their choice. They read books and do other research and they discuss their findings. As a group, they find new and better ways to do things, from teaching reading in every subject or handling discipline issues.
The initiative was first announced last year in an effort to make professional development a little more individualized, allowing each school or even groups within a school to determine what’s important to them.
In the East attendance area, they’ve taken the concept a step further.
