Upbringing aided George Johnston in banking business

By John Veasey

FAIRMONT — “We would like to nominate George Johnston as an ‘Everyday Hero.’ George recently retired from MVB Bank. Whenever it came to a banking problem, whether it be an amortization schedule, a housing loan, a personal 90-day loan, sound banking advice about your savings or a money market account, all we had to do was stop by MVB Bank to see George. George always greeted you with a big grin on his face and an outreached hand. And if you were lucky, he shared one of his ‘corny jokes’ with you.

“We are really going to miss him,” wrote Helen and Arnold Kittle.

Actions fit the bill

This was the e-mail recommending George Johnston as an “Everyday Hero.” His actions seem to fit the bill quite well.

George had been in the banking business around 39 years before his retirement from MVB at the close of 2009.

“I retired at the end of last year,” George says. “I kept a very low key. Then my wife and I visited one of our daughters and her husband in Florida and then the other daughter near Chicago. Kelly’s husband is a Marine who is from

Fairmont — Jason Stickles — and they live in Pensacola. Stacy lives outside of Chicago. Her husband is with Bosch (tools). Her husband was out of the country for two weeks when we went there.”

George spent 11 years with MVB.
