FAIRMONT — Tuesday is Spay Day USA.
A number of veterinary clinics in the area are offering discounted prices of $65 to spay a female cat and $55 to neuter a male cat. Additional charges may be required for vaccines or other procedures. Ordinarily, spay or neuter procedures cost $100 or more.
“We are doing this to encourage the public to spay and neuter their cats so as to prevent many unwanted kittens,” said Teressa Hoskinson, a board member with the Marion County Humane Society.
Bobby Brock, director of the Marion County Humane Society, said a female cat can have up to five litters of kittens in any given year. Also, that litter can consist of six or more kittens. A cat can reach sexual maturity at the young age of 4 months old. The average cat can live to 10 years of age and even up to 20 years of age.
