Family escapes burning home

Millersville residence sustains ‘heavy damage’

By Mary Wade Burnside

FAIRMONT — A Millersville family escaped from their burning home Saturday afternoon in a blaze that required several area fire departments to extinguish.

The family of Shain McVey, which includes two adults, three children and one dog, got out of their home in Millersville after it caught fire. The fire was called in at 4:56 p.m. at the home, which is off Brick Hill Road and close to Mike’s Auto.

Roger Mundell, a firefighter with Valley Volunteer Fire Department, said that no one was injured and that the house sustained “heavy damage.” He did not know if it would be declared a total loss.

“They’re going to have to get up in the attic,” he said. “It got a lot of damage. It burned end to end in the attic.”
