City’s snow-removal costs significant

Fairmont has spent $69,600 on salt, cinders and overtime expenses

FAIRMONT — Every time it snows, City Hall reaches for its checkbook to pay for snow removal.

“The cost of the snow removal this winter is accumulating as much as the snowflakes,” said Mayor Matt Delligatti. “The snowflakes look more and more like dollar signs, but our staff will continue to do all that is necessary to maintain the service we all expect and deserve.

“I applauded the job our public works crews have done keeping our streets as clear and safe as possible.”

Day in and day out of snow removal inspired the Times West Virginian to figure out how much it costs to remove an inch of snow from city streets — $1,657 per inch.
